Codes and Conventions of our theme
Summary

Above is another research page from my Ipad made on Goodnotes. Its all about CyberPunk codes and conventions. And I will briefly run through it all and elaborate.

So Cyberpunk is a style made up of two elements and was first use in the 80's. Cybernetics which means computer systems, robots, Artificial Intelligence and hacking. The second half of the word is for the Punk style. This is mainly a street style which is shown in the clothing and look of everything.

Location
There are many stereotypical settings for the theme. Busy and narrow streets sit within dark and dingy cities however they are illuminated with lights, signs and homes. The atmosphere of the cities are always dark then are revived with the electricity. Japanese culture is almost always part of the picture too. Most cyberpunk games are set in Japan or have settings influenced by them. Some games are even set in a dystopian future. Where the world is broken down, old and in a bad state economically.

The location always reflects the state of "High Tech or Low Life". This is when places and people with high tech are set for the future. They are usually higher up, or more wealthy and sometimes even scientists or people with smarts. Where the tech lacks is where the setting gets run down. This leads you to slums, small flats and the narrow, bustling streets. Its very common to see this in any cyberpunk film or game.

Stereotype in the theme
Within the theme there is usually very mature elements. A lot of cyberpunk games and films will include 18+ places like casinos, bars and dance clubs. Violence and strong language is also a strong theme. To show all this would bump up the PEGI rating to a 18 and would make it not suitable for most target audiences. This is a problem for us and we will have to address it.

Fitting / Adapting This Them to the game
Our Game was set to be a PEGI 7 game. So we have to take these mature themes and create them to be suitable and playable for a younger audience. What we plan to do is parody the situations and settings. So we want to still have casinos, clubs and bars but make them different for the PEGI 7 rating. The bars will be selling soda and juice rather than alcohol. Dance clubs will be more like discos and the Casinos will be with games that kids would play.

Regarding the violence and strong language. We will be eliminating this entirely. However we are replacing the violence with a hacking mechanic. No gore just a simple shut down. And they will be non-human looking enemies, so this brings down the PEGI rating.
