Marketing Strategies

I am the marketing coordinator for Cyberseal. One of my jobs is to help advertise the game and showcase the exhibition somehow. This is a post about my three main attacks when it comes to campaigning.

strategy 1: social media

Our target audience is 12-14. At this age social media is a huge influence of their lives. Even for our PEGI 7 audience, parents are most likely to be on these platforms. So in terms of audience reach, this is a very good way to do it.

I will be focusing on (Facebook, 2004) and  (Instagram, 2010). When thinking about social media these are the two main websites that stand out. So I will create an account for each and regularly update them to keep people entertained.

As for interactivity I want the audience to be able to see behind the scenes clips and photos of the team so they feel more involved. I also want to ask questions on the posts in the aim that people will join in.

One thing I really want to do is a countdown to the exhibition on Instagram. I want to create the card to say how many days then follow it with the work we are/ have been doing. Since Facebook and Instagram are both the same company, I want to link it to Facebook so that users on there can also see it.

strategy 2: Promotional products

When I think of Indie games companies that I've seen at MCM Comic con and EGX Rezzed, they all have promotional products that people can take away to remember the game. Examples of products are stickers, postcards, wristbands, badges and plush toys.

I want to be able to produce stickers and badges for the exhibitions. There will be several designs and when someone visits the stall or plays the game - they can take a sticker to remember the game by. This way it creates a advertisement to your game which has more longevity than a Facebook post.

Our target audience will also be interested in collecting them as they are something that is "free" and they can put it on backpacks, lanyards and clothing. Its also a hobby. If you like games and your friends do to, to have all these collected stickers and products would seem "cool"

Strategy 3: communication

Communication is a bigger strategy than I originally thought. Just through speaking to someone or reaching out you can gain their interest and create publicity.

Other than reaching out to people on Social media I sent an email to my old school media department. This was just through a simple and email and now I have 3 extra people coming to the exhibition - Which is my old GCSE media teacher amongst other staff there.

I know the other marketing leaders have also reached out to old tutors to do this.

Reaching out to local companies will help to. Steven Huckle of The Games Hub will hopefully be in attendance. As well as the guys from TeaboyGames. And all of this came about through communication of the course and local indie game designers.
