In the game slender (Slenderman: The Eight Pages 2013) , which is a very good comparative product to our game, the assets have a few similarities but also differences to Bandito's. Starting with similarities. Both assets are all very detailed, the more detailed the assets the more realistic it is and the more realism the higher the immersion level for the player. Immersion is a huge part of the game industry. It is what keeps players coming back, because they feel like they are in the game. I made sure my assets are incredibly detailed, especially the guitar. They aren't as eerie as slender's assets however when it is placed in game it looks almost abandoned. One difference between them is that they have is the tone of it. The game uses sparsely placed assets and a darker colour pallete to create a dramatic and more eerie effect of the players experience. I wanted to make the guitar a dark brown however the file went wrong and neither Carlie or I could sort it. I think the darker colour pallete effects the target audience dramatically. Usually when the colours are bright they are aimed more at children. Our light during white boxing was light but after adding darker lights it should dimmer the level and make it spookier.
For my research my secondary research outweighed my primary research. I looked at codes and conventions of horror with sterotypes involved: https://goo.gl/SyeZcv. Setting research which consisted on a bit of primary and secondary research: https://goo.gl/KEkHDk. My main primary research was my target audience and age range research where I looked at products first hand and how they tackle horror yet maintain a young target audience: https://goo.gl/rwB1ER. As well as Day of the dead https://goo.gl/Y15rzA and Audience theories https://goo.gl/R1J52S. Like previously stated I do have both primary and secondary research but its unbalanced. Looking back on it I could have done a lot more with primary research however with Future proof I struggled quite a bit to keep on track. I need to in the next project be so much more organised. But at least I have only one project to focus on. However the research I did do, I believe was relevant and successful in helping our game develop and that is the main point of it. But I will aim to do more next time.
In this project the main two programs I have learnt to use are Maya and Unity. I thought I would really struggle with the practical side of the project however I have found a love in 3D modelling, especially in Maya. I am a bit anxious with unity but its something I will practice in my own time. Also with my Maya creations it opened up the opportunity to use OBS recording software and Adobe premiere for editing. These are relatively simple however there is still so much to learn.
As for challenges, there wasn't many. The main one was with my Maya asset of the guitar and the colour of it. This is a problem with the file that neither Carlie or myself could fix or find a solution for. The mushroom was fine, it was just the guitar so I don't know what I did.
The skills I need to develop forward and my research skills and also my organisation. I usually am quite organised and prepared but I think the 2 projects at once just got the better of me. I plan to keep an organizer on me at all times and write down what I started, finished and yet to do. Like the target cards being handed out recently by Lizzy.
Overall this project has had some good and bad points. I feel I could have organised myself better over the project and I could have done some more research. However what I have achieved is good and I am proud of the work I have done. It may not be enough to get a high grade and I wish I had done this. But I want to do better in the next project.
