In this post I will be looking at three Modellers, animators or Concepts arts who have inspired me somewhat. This will help me decide what role I would like for the next project.
Rebecca Cordingley - Ooblets

Ooblets is a game being released in 2018. The art style is fresh and fills viewers with nostalgia and familiarity of animal crossing and Harvest Moon. Inspired by Stardew Valley, a game made by Eric Barone, Rebecca quit her job to fully work on making her games. Alongside husband: Ben they have begun creating ooblets.
I have been in contact with Rebecca and have some questions which she has answered for me:
1) What inspired you / how did you to start in the games industry?
2) From an Art/ 3d modelling point of view, what impact can the creations bring to the game?
3) Any words of wisdom for any students who want to start 3d Modelling?
1. There wasn't really a moment that I decided to get into the games industry or anything, I've just always followed my interests wherever they take me and just ended up making games. I played a lot of games, and studied graphic design at university, and got a job as a graphic designer. From there I learned a bit of programming and dabbled in 3D modeling which eventually turned into a focus in game development both at a game development studio and also as an independent developer.
2. That's a really broad question! Art can do anything/everything! In traditional games it's your primary tool (other than sound) for communicating to the player what everything *is*, and the expected behaviour(s) of those items/objects/things in your game. That's probably the most important one and I think it's always a good idea to think of game-art through the lense of UX. Things should be clear! Once you've got that nailed, everything else is really about player emotions. Making things satisfying or immersive or juicy or scary or sad.. art can do all that (with the help of good game design)
3. Follow your interests, try not to compare yourself to other artists.. aaaand playing games is important research so try to spend a bit of time playing games every day!
Just by asking a few questions it's help me find a new perspective on how to look at 3D modelling. So thank you Rebecca!

These are some of her previous 3D modeling work. What I like about her style is that its different to a lot of 3D modeling I've seen. Its the type of work I aspire to make but haven't quite got there yet.
Chad Moldenhauer - Cuphead

StudioMDHR is an video game company created by two brothers: Chad Moldenhauer & Jared Moldenhauer. For their first game, Chad was art director and had a huge responsibility over concept art and the final product.

Cuphead is a 1930s art inspired platformer game. From playing the game first hand the music and the art scream old Disney animations. Chad has created an original idea but also has popularized this style of art again. Apart from the severe difficulty of this game, art style was a huge role in making people buy the game.
Overall looking at the role from a 3D and 2D perspective. I would love to take on the role of 3D modelling. This is something I really enjoy as of recent and believe I would be good at. I have previously done work on concept and 2D and although I do like it, it's not something I would like to do for the next project.
