Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos is a hugely celebrated holiday across mexico. Mainly with the southern and central regions however.
Its a tradition past down generations through ancestors where they remeber their deceased loved ones. They do this with an altar adorned with bright colours, intricate detailing and candles. As it is said on the 2nd of November spirits will revisit their families who are still alive.
When looking at the details of the altars and designs on artwork they are all very intricately done with the brightest colours. Recently, day of the dead themed items are commonly found everywhere. The term "Sugar Skulls" is used to describe these designed skulls. These are very popular in the media, games industry and even in trinkets and house ware.
Here are photos of products I found at work. After asking management about them they have been part of the fish ornament section for around 3 or 4 years. And are constantly out, not just around the holiday. When looking at the "typical" design of Sugar Skulls they are usually white with swirls, hearts, flowers and curved lines. Its all so intricate usually. However on the products they are simplified down a bit. They arent as authentic as they could be however I suppose they are used to seeing less detailed versions now due to the vast majority of Mexican inspired products being sold recently.
Overall the Día de los Muertos influence will mostly be represented on our enemies and the mariachi band itself. So what im looking to have are bright and varying colours with multiple different patterns on several designs. I plan to do at least 3 alternate versions so I can get choice of what goes in the final game.
